Our Mission and Vision is Empowering Pet Parents

North Hound Life is committed to empowering pet parents, switching the onus of wellness expert directly onto pet parents and allowing them to take ownership of their dogs' health. By answering questions truthfully and listening to feedback from our customers, we aim to share knowledge, creating a community of confident pet parents who are ready to take their dogs' health into their own hands.

We believe that pet parents have the right to know exactly what they are putting into their dogs bowls and make decisions based on their own understanding of their dogs needs.

How we empower pet parents:

  • We focus on the facts and do not overpromise
  • We educate our customers about every ingredient in our products and clearly label our products with all ingredients included
  • We provide information on our website about where our ingredients are sourced from
  • We clearly identify products with Canadian ingredients
  • We are transparent about the fact that our products are produced in Canada If we find an interesting new article about one of our ingredients, we share it on our product pages
  • We respond to each customer inquiry individually (a human responds in every instance)
  • Our labelling is clear and our wellness categories colour coded to empower pet parents to walk right up to our products and read the label

Why do we think it’s important to empower pet parents?

  • Pet parents are the most knowledgeable people about their pet and their pets needs
  • Pet parents are the most emotionally invested people in their pets
  • Pet parents who feel empowered seek out new information with their pets best interest in mind
  • Pet parents who feel empowered ask questions and provide valuable feedback about how supplements benefit their pets

Stores can help pet parents to feel empowered every day by taking control of their own dog's health.

How stores can empower pet parents:

  • Be honest with them, providing facts based information and not sensationalist claims instills trust in your customer
  • Support every customer’s needs individually and do not use a one supplement fits all approach
  • Educate customers as to where they can go to look for more information
  • Give them time to look into it, pet parents are all different, some may need time to research natural whole food supplements and decide what is right for their dog and that shows you as the retailer just how important their dogs health is to them
  • Teach your customers about reading labels and paying attention to ingredients lists
  • Educate your customers about what it means when a product is all natural or whole food vs synthetic
  • Let your customer know that they have options, whether they are looking for a powder, a chew, or a capsule, provide them with the best option for their situation
  • Every dog is different and may react differently to new additions to their diet, listen to pet parents who have experiences with certain supplements and how this has benefitted their dog

What can parents do if a supplement does not sit well with their dog:

  • If pet parents notice an adverse reaction to a supplement they are using, they should stop all supplementing
  • Introduce supplements back into a dogs diet slowly and one at a time to decipher which supplement is causing an irritation
  • Reintroduce supplements slowly, ½ dose for a week, paying close attention to how a dog is tolerating each supplement before beginning to add more If all is well, resume normal supplementation

*Dogs with pre-existing conditions and who are on medication should always consult their veterinarian or certified canine nutritionist before adding any supplements into their diet.

Empowering pet parents builds trust and opens a dialogue between you and your customer.

Empowering pet parents means better care for dogs:

  • Pet parents are the first to notice a problem and look for a solution that meets their dogs individual needs
  • Pet parents who feel empowered are more open to discussing preventative care options for their dogs which may prevent health issues in the future
  • Pet parents who feel empowered are more likely to read ingredients and seek out specific ingredients that may benefit their dogs wellbeing
  • Pet parents who feel empowered are more likely to question what is going into their dogs food and why
  • Pet parents who feel empowered are more likely to replace fear with the confidence to make informed decisions about their dogs health

It takes a village and clear communication and the sharing of knowledge are some of the ways that we can all work towards providing dogs with happier and healthier lives!
